Rough Times...

-6719-6716

Gavin is really having a hard time.  Last night he continues to spike fevers as high as 105, with intense chills and abdominal pain.  His spleen and liver and both now distended down into his pelvis causing extreme pain.  Despite the platelets he receives yesterday his numbers dropped even lower.

The plan today is to give ore platelets, more albumin and more lasix.  We will be leaving soon for the ICU where we will pull his central line, which grew out another set of Gram Negative Rods within 8 hours of last nights culture.  They will then attempt to place a Fem line in the PICU and hopefully we will be able to return to the floor tonight.

Things are not looking good for our trip. Needless to say we are all feeling a bit defeated and very disappointed.

I hope he is better soon. Our daughter has Mito Complex I since birth and she is now a teenager and very similiar situation to yours (using omegaven, tpn, saline, on antibiotics, etcs) and she is doing well. So just take it one second, one minute, one hour, one day at a time and your family and faith will get you through it. Don't give up on your trip because as you know things can change very quickly for the better.

Dear Heavenly Father, I lift this precious family up to You. You know the needs here, Lord, and for whatever reason, this illness continues. I pray for this family, that You will bring them peace, You who are the Prince of Perfect Peace. Lord, be their Rock, their Strength, their Refuge. Give them hope, Lord, and greater faith in You. Lord, blanket them with Your Holy Spirit, right now as I pray this prayer. In Your precious, holy Name, in the the name of Jesus. AMEN.

As if it weren't bad enough to be going through all of this, it must be so much harder coming on the heels of some beautiful happy & healthy days & just before the much-anticipated trip to Disney...like having the rug yanked right out from under you! We're all praying for Gavin & the rest of your family to get through this with flying colors so the days to come will seem even more wonderful. Peace be upon you...

We're so sorry to hear Gavin's not feeling well. But isn't his health more important than a trip? We're praying for him to feel better.

To the previous poster...if you've read this blog for more than the 2 minutes you've obviously spent here, you would KNOW that this family has done everything--absolutely everything--for this blessed and much-loved boy. They lay their lives down on a daily, minute-by-minute basis for their son. Quite obviously they KNOW that his health is paramount. In my humble opinion, uou should keep your under-informed opinions and "scoldings" to yourself. Sorry about that Karen--feel free to remove both of these posts but I just saw red there for a second...love and prayers!

Of course his health is more important and I'm sure that Karen would agree. But, what is wrong with wanting both - good health and having his Make -a -Wish come true? Your family continues to be in our prayers.

Come on Gavin...not now!! Poor baby! I know he's miserable, but he is so darn cute in those pictures. My heart just aches for him. Sending many prayers your way for a speedy recovery and a super wonderful trip to Disney...whenever you get there!

Oh no! Gavin, you fight this with your best one-two punch! Minnie Mouse and all the others are excited to see you come visit!

Lord, hanging on to hope, right now. Let this precious little one have a chance at some fun, if it be Your Will. Laughter is such good medicine. We want some giggles and smiles from Karen and Adam's two children. Please have mercy and heal quickly. In Jesus Name. Amen.

Hi Gavin, I wanted you to know that I live in Florida where Mickey Mouse lives and I know he will be there waiting for you no matter when you are able to go. I can't wait till my lille boy is healthy enough to come home from the NICU so we can go to Disney too! Be strong, I know I am a stranger to you, but I am so glad I found your blog and pray for you and my little boy every day. Who is your favorite Disney character? Maybe I can introduce him to my baby and take a picture of them for you.

I'm a friend of Jill Heintz's and a volunteer for Make A Wish in Pittsburgh. Rest assured, if your trip doesn't happen next week, as soon as little Gavin is well enough, MAW will make magic happen for all of you. Hopefully, that will be next week, but if not, I pray, soon! Lynne

Oh guys, so very sorry to hear this. Please know we are thinking of you and praying for you. Many times these trips can be re-scheduled, these org. are very flexible..they really have to be considering our kids! Just give them a call and explain his situation as I'm sure they deal with these things all the time. Know your little guy is in so many people's hearts, thoughts and prayers. Much love Deb & Scott
