BabyLegs for duPont...

BabyLegs @ duPont-3BabyLegs @ duPont-2

What an amazing morning we had at the A. I. duPont Hospital or Children -- the place where we lived the past  3 1/2 years, the place that we not only started Gavin's life but also watched it end -- our second home. This place has given our family so much -- much more than just caring for the medical needs of our sick little boy.  This place gave us comfort, hope, friendship and the people in this hospital walked us through some of our darkest times -- always there ready to listen and support us. With that said, it feels so incredibly awesome to give back to the place that has given us so much!

Our family spent to morning with some of the hospital staff taking photos and handing out the bins of BabyLegs to the staff from many units of the hospital so they could take them back and give them to the children as they need them.  Due to the current strict visitation policies due to the flu we were not able to walk around to all the units but we were able to spend from time on our unit 3E.  They dedicated a closet to our little boy where items can be stored that are donated for the children of that unit.  It was an amazing feeling to see Gavin name right on the wall -- making an impact.

Thanks again to all the people who made this campaign possible.  Thanks to all who donated.  Thanks to BabyLegs for matching our donations and really taking this little fundraiser to the next level.  Thanks to the Hospital staff for welcoming our donation.  Most importantly thanks to my little boy for teaching us all about hope, love and joy and giving us the strength to keep your spirit strong -- making an impact and changing lives!

OMG - how sweet that they wrote "Gavin's Closet"!!!!! I think I even can picture where it is! I feel so proud for you - it must have been the most amazing feeling to give back. Don't you wish you could be a fly on the wall when baby legs are presented to a family? I know I would. Congratulations. I was happy to be a part of this. And I was so happy to see pictures of familiar faces at DuPont! :-)

xoxo

This is awesome Karen! I wish I had known about you guys over the last few years when you were going through this stuff with Gavin, but @carrieduvall and I have been thinking and praying for your family continually since October when we stumbled on Gavin's blog. Happy to see things are going well, despite your transitioning to a "new normal".

The photos literally gave me chills. What an impact Gavin has on so many!

Dupont needs to use that photo of Dr. Madi (under their sign) in their publicity campaign.

This is amazing stuff.

That's wonderful. I am glad that Gavin's memory was able to touch so many more kid's lives. A closet for just him, that in it's self says how many people loved him. Keep up the great work. Maybe you can let s help you with something else in the future. Glad that you let me be apart of something so amazing. Calling Dr. Madi!!!

Hello Owens Family!
My name is Raquel, and we have never met before, but I wanted to thank you for your amazing story. Our son Bryton has been here at A.I. duPont for the last 7 months and this afternoon we recieved a few pairs of BabyLegs, thanks to your family. Hi Karen
We've never met, but I've followed your blog because we have a friend with Mito. I am so sorry for your recent loss. My daughter is at AI for pneumonia and RSV right now. She has some other physical limitations as well, but right now we are here for the medical treatment necessary. Anyway, the reason for my email is to thank you for the Baby Legs. She is wearing them right now and it makes her smile when she sees her hot pink legs! What a generous donation and a thoughtful gift you have given to so many families!! I just wanted to take a minute to thank you!
Sincerely.
The Lavelles
